Name the stall
You don’t know because you disagree, you need a fact, or you don’t want the conversation. Those are different replies. Mixing them produces a mushy paragraph that still doesn’t decide.
Three honest exits
- Need a fact: “Let me check and text you back.”
- Need a question: “Do you mean this week or next?”
- Need a no: a short no plus one line of warmth if the relationship needs it — not a fake maybe.
Don’t wait for the perfect sentence
Perfect is how threads die. A slightly awkward true line is easier to continue than a polished dodge. If the relationship is high-stakes, write it, walk away for two minutes, then send.
